WHO THE CAP FITS?

copyright-THIS DAY

The Presidential ambition of Chief Philip Asiodu is to be meaningful if the Peoples Democratic Part (PDP) wins the local council election in Oshimili South L.A.

Chief Asiiodu is one of those aspiring to be president of Nigeria. THIS DAY checks on his ability to run his private companies and his records in the public service as indices of how Nigerians would fare under his presidency.

These records indicates that Nigerian will be comparatively better if he has the control of state machinery. He has the pedigree, learning and experience wanted in any presidential candidate.

At the time he was retired in 1975, Asiodu could not really call himself an entrepreneur nor the industrialist that is ascribed to him. The reason at that time, was that his wealth consisted in the shares he was able to acquire as a civil servant. The much he did was to establish Medife Limited, said to be a holding company with interest in many blue chips across the nation. Beyond this, however, Asiodu, demonstrated his ability to manage his own economic private life. His foray into industry, however, began when he established the Summit Furniture Company Limited in Asaba Delta State with Headquarters in Lagos. Founded 22 years ago, Summit Furniture was conceived to be an exporter of furniture and wood to Europe. With a staff strength of over 180, the company is said to be Asiodu's contribution to solving unemployment in Asaba rather than patting cash gifts they expect from him whenever he was in their midst.

Thus, beside his pension, Asiodu earns respectable living from his investments in other companies through Medife and the Furniture company that is all there is to the industrialist ascribed to him.

In recognition of his excellent managerial ability and expertise in Corporate Government, Asiodu has been invited to chair several boards of national and multi-national bodies. For instance, he has been Chairman of Eco Bank PLC, Krupp Steel Engineering Co. Ltd, International Contractors Ltd, amount others. Asiodu is believed to be an open door policy- maker and a firm believer in superior argument on every national issue.

If experience in public service is a basic requirement for the next president, then Phillip Asiodu scholar, diplomat and administrator has tasted power and tyranny of state power.
