APF SHIPS COMPUTER, BOOKS FOR ASAGBA PALACE AND UNIVERSITY OF DELTA, ANWAI ASABA
When a APF had its meeting with the Asagba and Asaba Leadership in December 1997, there were doubts from some
of the attendees at the meeting. Promises have been made in the past by various groups and organizations about how they will do this and do that for Asaba.
All amounting to nothing.
APF vowed never to make any promises it cannot deliver on. No wonder the sigh of relief when the shipment of computer equipments and books
finally left Dallas on Tuesday May the 19th bound for Lagos for onward transpotation to Asaba.The first installment of APF's initial
$5000 budget for Asaba.
When APF had its meeting with the Asagba of Asaba and Leadership, it was surprising to learn that there was no central database for
record keeping in asaba. There was no record of even the members of the Asagba in council. No record of events or important dates. When you need
a record people will just think and quote. Some were kept on loose pieces of papers.
The Asagba and leadership council mentioned that on top the list of their needs is a central computer system.
To an average person, computer may not sound like a pressing need for a community with So many other problems. But how are you suppose to track and manage
a problem if you cannot even keep record of them.
Convincing members of APF that a computer system is needed is another story.
APF debated this issue intensely before coming to terms in a very close vote that in this situation, a computer is needed for good record keeping,
database management, and analization of the tasks ahead.
So APF made a computer, part of its first installment of shipments to Asaba.
Books for the Libraries in Asaba and the Asaba Campus of the university of Delta, was also on top of
the lists of badly needed resources. APF shipped various books and periodicals for these libraries.
Like the journey of a thousand miles; it starts with one step. APF has just made that step.
Asaba on-line Congratulates APF and especially Mr Ephraim Okotcha who has spearheaded this project.
Talking about it is always the easy part. APF is doing something about it.
We hope that this is just the beginning.
